This is a step by step tutorial on how I made this altered mirror using supplies from ASC Craft Supplies and from my stash. This is my first official project as a design team member. I love how this mirror turned out and how easy the rice paper is to work with. It is stronger than tissue paper, so there is no worry about it ripping when applying it to a surface with something like Modge Podge. Plus the images and colors are so vibrant and beautiful. I have decided that this mirror is going to my mom for Mother’s Day. I know she is really going to like it.

ASC Supply List for the written tutorial project:
Stamperia Ortensie and Butterfly Rice Paper – 23-174
Darice® 3-pc Ivory Pearl Bling Sticker Strips – 7-274
49 & Market Botanical Potpourri Snow – 1-061
Supplies from my own stash:
Mirror
Dollar Tree Butterflies
Various paper flowers
Ribbon – 12 inches
Acrylic Gems
Cheese Cloth
Gesso
Acrylic Paint – Light Blue and Dark Blue Metallic
Modge Podge
Nuvo Mica Mist – Nebula Blue
Hot Glue
Art Glitter Glue
Scissors
Paint Brushes
Instructions:
Step One:
Apply Gesso to the entire mirror, giving it only one coat. This will help to adhere the acrylic paint, which is going to be applied next. Once this layer was dry add the light blue to the remaining Gesso and mix it really well. Then give the mirror another coat using the light blue mix. Let that dry.

Step Two:
Take and pour some of the Metallic Dark Blue paint out and grab a stencil paint brush. This is going to be applied using a dry brush method. This means dab the brush into the paint until there is just a hint of paint on the brush and dab in various spots around the mirror. Let that layer dry.

Step Three:
First cut out the images from the rice paper that will be used on the mirror and arrange them where you would like.

Step Four:
Take and pour out a little of the Stamperia Gold Glitter glue and brush each of the white flowers with it. Put these aside to dry.

Step Five:
Using Modge Podge start applying each of the images to the mirror. This mirror had a lot of ridges, so this part was very time consuming. Start from the inside of the image and work your way outwards. Making sure to press in the creases with the brush.

Step Six:
The Ivory Pearl Bling strip comes in three strips together. Take a craft knife and cut down each strip so that you are only working with one strip at a time. Line the inside of the edge where the mirror is all the way around. Then take a single strip and outline the four largest outermost edges with a single strip. Do this on all four points. I had to use Art Glitter Glue to make sure the strips stayed put, as they didn’t like being put in such a curved pattern, but it worked to hold them in place.

Step Seven:
Take a small square of cheese cloth and spray it with Nuvo Mica Mist and then dry with a heat gun. Cut into small sections and adhere to the frame in random spots with Modge Podge. Let that dry. Take the 12″ of ribbon and make a bow in the middle. Got glue the bow to the top of the mirror and then randomly hot glue different spots to give it that wavy look. Like the ribbon is cascading down the mirror.

Step Eight:
Once the hot glue is dry apply clear acrylic gems to each point where the ribbon was hot glued and to the top and bottom second row points.

Step Nine:
Hot glue the paper flowers to the outer edge of the ring around the mirror and let cool. You can also use the left over flowers as accents around other parts of the mirror.

Step Ten:
This next step involves taking the Dollar Tree butterflies off of the silver backing they come on and only using the clear part of the butterfly. Take four butterflies apart and hot glue randomly wherever you prefer. Then cut strips of two or three from the Ivory Pearl bling and add to each butterfly as the body.
